The Huntington Beach Planning Commission recently approved a request to convert the Huntington Shorecliffs Mobilehome Park from a rental property to a resident-owned community.
This means that in addition to owning their manufactured home, Shorecliff residents will now have the opportunity to purchase the land underneath. Because the land is included in the purchase, these mobilehome units will qualify for mainstream mortgage financing, the same as with a regular home.
Shorecliff residents, however, are not required to purchase individual spaces, nor will these residents be evicted.
Under California state law, residents that do not want, or cannot afford, to purchase individual lots can continue to rent the space where their home currently resides. The proprietor of the park will retain ownership of that particular space.
